Nash networks with heterogeneous links

چکیده

A non-cooperative model of network formation is developed. Link formation is one-sided. Information flow is two-way. The model builds on the work of Bala and Goyal who permit links to fail with a certain common probability. In our model the probability of failure can be different for different links. The set of networks which are Nash for suitably chosen model parameters consists of all essential networks. We specifically investigate Nash networks that are connected, superconnected, or stars. Efficiency, Pareto-optimality, and existence issues are discussed through examples. Three alternative model specifications are explored to address potential shortcomings. D 2005 Elsevier B.V. DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS WORKING PAPER SERIES Existence of Nash Networks in One-Way Flow Models

This paper addresses the existence of Nash networks for the one-way flow model of Bala and Goyal (2000) in a number of different settings. We provide conditions for the existence of Nash networks in models where costs and values of links are heterogeneous and players obtain resources from others through the directed path between them. We find that costs of establishing links play a vital role i...

A novel key management scheme for heterogeneous sensor networks based on the position of nodes

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have many applications in the areas of commercial, military and environmental requirements. Regarding the deployment of low cost sensor nodes with restricted energy resources, these networks face a lot of security challenges. A basic approach for preparing a secure wireless communication in WSNs, is to propose an efficient cryptographic key management protocol be...

Distributed Incremental Least Mean-Square for Parameter Estimation using Heterogeneous Adaptive Networks in Unreliable Measurements

Adaptive networks include a set of nodes with adaptation and learning abilities for modeling various types of self-organized and complex activities encountered in the real world. This paper presents the effect of heterogeneously distributed incremental LMS algorithm with ideal links on the quality of unknown parameter estimation. In heterogeneous adaptive networks, a fraction of the nodes, defi...

Nash Networks with Heterogeneous Agents

A non-cooperative model of network formation is developed. Agents form links with others based on the cost of the link and its assessed beneÞt. Link formation is one-sided, i.e., agents can initiate links with other agents without their consent, provided the agent forming the link makes the appropriate investment. Information ßow is two-way. The model builds on the work of Bala and Goyal, but a...

Nash Networks with Imperfect Reliability and Heterogeous Players

This paper combines the imperfect reliability model of Bala and Goyal [2000b] with the heterogeneous player model of Galeotti et al. [2006]. We compare existence, characterization and efficiency results in the resulting framework with the results in other frameworks allowing for imperfect reliability or heterogeneity. Specifically, we compare our work with the framework of Haller and Sarangi [2...
